Question Help choosing between 27GP950, 27GR93U and M27U

Hi all!

I am in the market for a new 4K monitor and I've narrowed my options to 3 devices. All of them have a similar price point in my country (Spain) and all have different pro/cons and I would like some advice.
  • Gigabyte M27U (599€): this one was my first choice as it's recommended EVERYWHERE. However it has a limited HDMI 2.1 bandwidth and the color is not as good as the other 2.
  • LG 27GP95R/27GP950 (560€): this one has the full HDMI 2.1 bandwidth and nice colors but I've read that some people have eye strain issues.
  • LG 27GR93U (609€): this one has full HDMI 2.1 bandwidth and a bit worse colors than the other LG. It also has a worse Display HDR 400 certification.
My uses for the monitor are twofold: working as a developer 8hrs a day and playing with both my PC and Xbox Series X.

I know that the HDMI+DSC compression is currently visually the same but I'm worried about the future, since I don't change monitor in years.

Any advice?

Thanks a lot!

Maybe try reading this website and also check some youtube reviews out. The Middle one has 600 HDR but makes eye strain and that can caurse headakes and gigabyte is about limited and colour not good but only cons is for the LG 27GR93U is hdr so think should go with LG 27GR93U still has 144hz refresh rate and 4k will still be colourful

Be careful with Xbox compatibility. Regardless of HDMI 2.1 on the monitor, the Xbox is picky. I've mentioned this elsewhere but out of 4 monitors with TRUE HDMI 2.1 only 1 monitor worked with the Xbox (also reminder HDMI 2.1 ≠ HDMI 2.1 anymore). They would not do full resolution and high refresh rate.

So check rtings, and check each monitor specifically if the Xbox works. Be sure to follow up if all or none support the Xbox.

Thanks! To be honest, I did read all possible sources and (most probably) that's what made me more confused. However, it's interesting what you mention, since neither of the three has a decent HDR (and the Gigabyte being the worst according to "Hardware Unboxed" on YouTube.

Thanks! Those are exactly my worries regarding the M27U. Since it doesn't implement the full HDMI 2.1 bandwidth but uses DSC instead, it may cause some issues on upcoming consoles (for instance, PS5 seems to have a some issues according to Rtings). The other two, on the other hand, work just fine (according to all sources).

Ah rtings added the long time talked about console compatibility since I last went there.
HDR Monitors under professional grade pricing will be abysmal at best and unusable at worst.

While the Gigabyte might have better HDR at a certification of HDR600, it's still not HDR worth considering.
HDR has to be implemented correctly in games as well which many it's not IMO. It's so inconsistent I turned mine off.

When all is said and done, the 93u would be my choice. It has the best, though only narrowly, response, very good color accuracy and importantly good black uniformity according to their tests.

Thank you for your recommendation! That makes 2 for the 93u :)
