Help choosing GPU with new build

Hello all,
I am currently working on a new rig and have decided to go with a i5 4690k CPU and am looking for a GPU to utilize the CPU within the price range of 225-270. My current GPU choice is PowerColor Radeon R9 280X 3GB TurboDuo, ($225) but I am willing to go up a bit on the price (30-50 more $) if there is a better GPU in that range, any suggestions?

r9 290 with any aftermarket cooler from major known brand. Or drop down to the 280x if you cant find 1 in your budget, Don't consider Nvidia until you get into the gtx 970 tier, or ave a very low wattage psu

PSU is Corsair CX 600W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply for 80$

Do you have it already? If not then I would suggest a 600+ watt from Xfx, Antec, Seasonic as they are much better quality

Okay, currently the cheapest PSU ive found that has very good quality, and is semi-modular is the Antec HCG 620w, its selling for about 60-70$ right now. This will last much longer, and has better build quality.

This PSU will allow you to throw in any single gpu+overclocking, and still have some headroom.

Alright so new card I am looking at is Sapphire Radeon R9 290 4GB Tri-X, I am looking into power supply now. Do you feel i5 4690k is overkill on the CPU for the tier of computer ($800 range) or will it work nicely with the r9 290?

It will work nicely with that card, in fact that CPU will work nicely just for about anything. That Tri-x r9 290 is perhaps the best cooling for that card and it will work great!

so no aftermarket cooling should be required and everything looks good with new power supply and GPU?

If you plan on overclocking that 4690k, you will need a z97 or z87 chipset motherboard, and a aftermarket cooler. If you dont plan on overclocking I would get the non k version to save money.

The GPU has a very good cooler on it, that tri-x is very good for cooling that gpu.
