Help Choosing Monitor

I've recently decided to join the master race and leave consoles behind. I will have a new PC arriving in about a week and I am now looking to choose a monitor.

Specs: gtx 1070 i7 -6700k

Main games: Overwatch, other fps, WOW, some triple A titles


I've searched high and low and when purchasing I do not want to feel buyers remorse. Overall I'm feeling conflicted on whether or not to go with a Gsync Monitor. I have read issues regarding input lag and not being able to reach higher frames in first person shooters. Price really isn't an issue with me but I would still like to stay under the 500$ range. Ultimately, I'm looking to push my PC to the limit and see what it can do after being a console pleb for several years.

Considering you are packing a 1070 I think 1440p 144Hz is the way to go, otherwise you're just wasting potential power as wow and overwatch aren't very intensive. The 1070 can easily drive Overwatch around 144FPS in 1440p. I think Gsync is rather optional, I've never really had issues noticing screen tearing. It mostly happens when your GPU is sending more FPS than your monitors refresh rate, so if you never max out the display (like with 144Hz 1440p) it shouldn't really be a problem.

It could help in that situation. But really in my experience the higher your framerates the less you will notice tearing (as the out of sync frames spend less time on the screen). The $569 Dell with Gsync is a pretty good deal though and I would consider it in your situation if you are concerned with tearing.

On an anecdotal note, with my 144hz monitor and crappy GPU (R9 280) I often hang around 45 FPS in triple-A titles and I never notice any tearing. But that could just be me.
