Hello, I’ve had some Audio Technica AD500 headphones since 2018 and they have been fantastic! However the wire on them has broken so I’m looking for a new set, at the moment I’m looking at either the
ATH-AD700X or the ATH-AD900X

Does anyone have any other advice? I use them exclusively for gaming, so being able to hear every sound possible is a must, I want a good quality set but not insanely expensive.
They will be used with a FiiO Olympus DAC.
Thanks!

I wouldn't buy a pair of headphones that didn't have a removable cable at this point. The open backed ones I have are HIFIMAN HE400se and I've liked them a lot when I've used them. HIFIMAN seems to have some of the best lower cost options on the market and I'm pretty sure they all have removable cables.

I can't remember the pair my friend has which are even better, but I'll update this post once I find out the model.

edit: they have the HE560 v4, but it looks like those may have been discontinued in the meantime

So if I’m looking at ones with detachable cable it looks like either these

With Sennheiser you're generally going to get a good product so it really comes down to personal preference and how much money you want to spend. Not having heard either one of them first hand I wouldn't pretend to have a useful suggestion for which to pick beyond looking to see if someone has reviewed both so you could compare like tests.

My friend let me borrow their more expensive HIFIMAN headphones and while I could tell the difference between the two it wasn't enough to make me want to spend over twice as much money. I'm not super picky though as I regularly swap between my Bose QC15, HIFIMAN HE400se, Bose Frames and Creative Outlier Free Pro+ depending on what I'm doing.

Gotcha! Thank you :) I think I’ll drop the money and get the 660s2 and see how they feel, being too brand hopefully they are worth the money, and they have a detachable cable so that won’t be an issue either - one further question, will my fiio e10k Olympus dac still be enough to drive them?

Hmm I didn't think to look at the requirements, but it does seem like the s2 requires a lot more power than the s... I'm not sure the e10k will be enough for them since the headphones are rated for 300ohms they'd certainly have problems getting to high volume at the very least
