I posted this a while ago but never ended up buying anything.

My computer is falling apart though and I definitely need something now.

Wondering if anyone could tell me if either of these two pc's are an upgrade from my current one...

Not looking for a huge upgrade... just something marginally better. I chose the cheapest one I could find that has an improvement in screen resolution.

I would also replace the HDD with an SSD, which I hope is still possible in new laptops.

My pc stats are below.

Ok had no idea about that thanks.

My current pc is actually ok. I'm just looking for an upgrade because it's falling apart. Back of the screen is breaking and usb ports don't work anymore.
In that case, disregard my previous suggestion and go with the new laptop.

I think what bothers me most about the newer laptop is the processor's 1.0GHz base speed. This means while at stock speeds, it's only drawing 15 watts, but if the system kicks in Turboboost, it's going to draw more power, generating more heat and decreasing battery life; needing a recharge sooner than later.

Everything else says it's a better processor, but that still bothers me. Instead, I'd probably be looking to see if a RAM upgrade in your current system is possible.

Hey hoping someone can help me finalize this.

I've narrowed my search down to these two pcs:

https://www.ebay.ca/itm/174467683398?ul_noapp=true

https://www.ebay.ca/itm/283935157326?ul_noapp=true

Both of them have 256 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSDs. I don't really know what all that means, but I know it's not the same as a standard internal 2.5" SSD.

I have my own large 2.5" internal SSD I want to install, but no idea if these laptops will have a slot for it. HP support is no help at all. How can I figure out if there's an extra slot for an internal SSD?

Edit: nevermind I think I found the answer as it does not specify the ability to add it under "expansion".
