Help Connecting power to GTX 970?

I'm hooking up a Zotac GTX 970 to a EVGA 850G power supply.

(See picture) The GPU connector has 2 six pin females. The power supply PCI-E cables all have 6 pins plus an extra 2 pins loosely attached to the 6. And there are 2 of these connectors on a single cable.

My question is, can 6 of the 8 pins on the cable be used? And can both connectors on the same cable be used, or is it too much for the cable and each female connector on the GPU need its own cable?

Any help is greatly appreciated

You should be able to just connect the two 6 pins in while leaving off the two extras

Yes you can just plug the 6 pins in and leave the two pins hanging off. You can use a single cable or have separate cables, should not make a difference.

I agree with both Suztera and LucaFire, in addition the 2 pin connector are just additional ground connector that some VGA cards require.
