I have a dell inspiron 531 computer that runs on windows 7 and a samsung syncmaster 2220 wn monitor.

A few months ago I purchased this used computer and monitor off craigslist, and unfortunately didn't notice the sound coming from the monitor before I bought it. The sound, like described in the title, is a constant buzzing or white noise, with various "squeaks" mixed in among the buzzing. I have been trying to find a solution to the sound for quite some time now, but do to being busy with work, it hasn't exactly been my top priority. But at this point it is driving me crazy.

To add some more details, the monitor that I own has built in speakers, which, without headphones plugged in, will buzz out loud, although, no matter how loud or quiet the volume (even on mute) is turned to on the computer it self, the loudness of the buzzing always stays the same. When headphones are plugged into the monitor the buzzing also can be heard through those. However, when headphones are plugged into the computer tower, the buzzing cannot be heard directly through the headphones, while the buzzing still comes from the speakers. The majority of the time I use headphones, so you can imagine how annoying having that loud white noise in your ears can be, it's such a headache!

I am pretty tight on cash right now, and can't afford a new monitor, especially one of the size that I purchased. So if anyone has any suggestions for me I would defiantly appreciate it!

Sorry none of those worked for you. I'm sure a new monitor would fix it but I know what it's like being on a budget. I don't recommend it, but if it were me I'm sure it'd be drastic measures involving finding those speaker cords and trying to cut them lol. Something is causing feedback somewhere either from the ccfl's inverter, capacitors, an unshielded audio cable somewhere so simply turning down the speakers may not work if the sound is actually a humming frequency emitted by another component. Wish I had a better answer for you, I don't even own a flat panel. Still using a 22" flat screen crt (around 80lbs) 😛
This seems to be an issue with some dell monitors and syncmasters. Possible fixes may include changing your monitor's refresh rate from 50hz to 60hz or vice versa using the onboard controls. Also try changing the brightness level and see if that has any effect. If it does, then it's an issue with the internal low end capacitors. Also try checking the monitor's sound level and set to 0 - then use external speakers or headphones. No guarantees but some of these or a combination of these methods have solved the issue for a lot of people. Hope it works for you.

While I appreciate the suggestions, unfortunately none of them worked. Thanks anyway! (Although, I am pretty sure that I voted your response as a solution on accident, oops.)
