Help!!! cooked up my athlon 1000

Get a 1.3ghz. much better chip anyway.

Abit IS7 - 3.0C @ 3.6ghz - Mushkin PC4000 (2 X 512) - Sapphire 9800Pro - TT 420 watt Pure Power
Samsung 120gb ATA-100 - Maxtor 40gb ATA - 100
Sony DRU-510A - Yellowtail Merlot

how do you know it's the CPU? What are the symptoms exactly?

It's unlikely your CPU would just spontaneously fry after months/years of faithful service, unless the HSF fell off, but if that was the case then it wouldn't work for half an hour. more like 5 seconds.

Sound like a problem with the RAM. Make sure that pushed in all the way.

bit odd that it'd just fall off like that (without being dropped or whatever)...

Have one or more of the little plastic lugs come off the socket? if more than just the one in the middle are missing then it's new mobo time. Besides, it's always possible that the chip cooked something else while it was toasting and the mobo's dead anyway...

I've only ever seen this happen as a result of Heavy-handed couriers. the bastards.

So what kind of assistance are you seeking? You know the chip is completely toast from what you said in your second post... so you can't be asking if it's dead or of it's repairable...
