I'm trying to find the best cooling solution for my 1.4 Tbird. I've lookied all over the internet, but I can't find a CURRENT comparison list of coolers. Does anybody ahve any reccomendations? I would like something under 45 db and under $40 US.

Are you going to overclock? If not then you do not need a better heatsink fan combination.

However here are a few places for reviews and they generally show estimated prices.

My personal preference is the Alpha 8045T with the Thermaltake A1357 (Smart Fan II) or using the grill-attachment procedure to attach a Panasonic 92mm fan with a rheostat. However that will not fit into that budget constraint.

Thanks bum. I think that I may start to overclock. Thant's why I wanted to get a better fan. Besides, my MB says that my CPU is at about 52 degrees at idle. From what I've ben reading, that sounds high. My main reason for wanting a new solution is that my computer sounds like a jet engine. It is really annoying me. Do you know of where I could find the specs on the oem cooler for the AMD for comparison. I think that, based on the info, you pointed me to, I've decided to get a Volcano 7+. It seems like it will fit my needs, depending on what kind of mood I'm in.

Those temps are not that high. You are probably around 55C under a full load. That is more than acceptable. Not great for overclocking. You could do a little now. A better heat sink will allow you to go higher. (All -Remember: Overclocking will void any warranty.)

Looking at what you are proposing I would say use the Volcano 7+. It will give you good temps. Make sure you pick up some Arctic Silver II and apply it evenlyly and thin. You only need it to fill in the microscopic divots in the surfaces. Do not apply it like a icing layer in the middle of a cake.

Just for sarcasims sake...

You might think that your system sounds like a jet engine but that is nowhere near the truth. (Some hyperbole perhaps? Because I caught a fish THIS BIG!") I have 6 Delta Electronics 120mm fans in one of my older systems and that is loud enough. It gives off a dull hum. I know what you are hearing. I do like sarcasim. It makes the world a more joyful place if used correctly.

Specs for heatsinks for AMD can be found on pages 10 and 11 of the <A HREF="http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/white_papers_and_tech_docs/23794.pdf" target="_new">AMD Thermal, Mechanical, and Chassis Cooling Design Guide</A>.
