i have had a custom gaming pc for a few years ( approximately 3) that i bought through a website than configured it and build it for you. All has been fine until last night...

i booted my pc to an error code stating i had a 'CPU fan error'. i entered the BIOS and clicked 'ignore' so i could boot my pc without issue. once i launched my pc i donwloaded a piece of software called 'HWMonitor' which allows me to see the temp. and fan speed of my CPU etc etc...

When i first launched my PC today i thought my BIOS had made an error as this new software was telling me my CPU fan was spinning at a healthy RPM, however a few hours later and its sitting at a steady 0 RPM! from this i have concluded my CPU fan is either broken, my MOBO is faulty or my PSU is not working correctly. Which is most likely? And what would my next best steps be? do i need a new fan? new heatsink?

My CPU is an Intel i5 4670k 3.4GHz quad core (Not Oveclocked)

My motherbaord is an ASUS All Series

Any help much obliged!

try unplug the fan connector and blow the dust. The connector may have dust stuck and the contact between motherboard and fan may be bad. If its not working, try with another fan (any fan with 4 pin gonna do the job:))

hope it helped

Open up your case and look to see if the fan is spinning.
If it is not, check that nothing is interfering with the blades and that the power lead is securely plugged in to the motherboard.

Most likely, in order is one of the above, a faulty fan, a motherboard failure, psu failure in that order.
I would think the last two are very unlikely.

Hi all, thanks for advice about what to do.. the cpu fan has been working and off since the issue appeared, i have decided to buy a new cpu fan to see if that rectifys the issue. Can anyone recommend a good one as my current one seems to have vanished from all online stores lol.. the dimensions of my current fan are 95x95x25 mm

My cpu is an intel i5 4670k @3.4GHz quad core.

Every time i find a suitable fan, a heatsink is attached! I only want to change the cpu FAN... thanks again.
