Hello, i recently built my first gaming pc, and it runs quite fast for the most part, but i noticed that in old games (and some new), there are a lot of stuttering. When i ran msi afterburner i noticed the games were utilizing only 1 thread to 90-99 usage. Here is a screenshot
I am really worried because this is my first pc that i bought with my own money, which took an awfully long time, and i am unable to return the cpu.
Specs:
CPU:i5 10500 (Clock boost deactivated from bios)
GPU:UHD 630
Motherboard: b560m ds3h v2
PSU:Seasonic s12iii 650w

All drivers installed from motherboard manufacturer site.

Solution
It is common for games to be largely dependent on one thread.

Turbo will boost the performance of one or two cores when conditions are right.
Temperature under 70c. and otherwise lightly loaded.
Seems to me that you should want turbo boost activated.
As a test of your single thread performance, run the cpu-z bench and look at the single thread rating.
For a i5-10500 it should be about 516

Much different bears looking into.
Only using 1 thread is expected behavior for old games and it can cause bad performance some times but your stutters could also come from using the iGPU which is not really made for gaming, it shares the same ram as all your other apps that are running which can cause a lot of interference.

No video card so the processor is just doing what it needs to do. Buy a video card UHD 630 is not made for gaming.

I play lots of old games that are single threaded, this is very common. What game is it your playing there and what RAM do you have? When I tested the iGPU performance was 50% better with dual channel memory.

Again no load on the processor because it has nothing to do to get the FPS the 630 graphics can put out then you add all the old games that mainly ran off one core anyhow.

I would try to get a 1050ti video card at the least it is a entry level gaming video card.

I tested on games such as Cry of Fear (half life 1 mod, thread bottlenecks gpu, having 30 fps in some areas), euro truck 2, dead by daylight (runs very well for an uhd 630, no cpu thread bottleneck). I have corsair 16gb 2x8 3200 with xmp active.
Thank you for your answer

Thank you kindly for your answer, i will have to benchmark the cpu tommorow, hope i get the desired rating
