Hi everyone,
I am hoping someone can help me I'm a complete nocive on my first ever computer build/upgrade. I've been given a very old pc that I'm going to have a play around with. I've stripped it and I'm intending to buy a 500gb ssd upgrade the ram and cpu. I just some advice on best cpu and max ram and any other tips so here goes.

My mother board is a (MS 7528)

Cpu ( Intel pentium daul core 2.60ghz E5300

Think its 2gb ram

I've done a little searching but I'm getting conflicting information on the best or max cpu upgrade. One site is telling me that I can upgrade cpu to a (Core 2 duo E8600) and the manufacture page on motherboard max support is a (core 2 qaud?) anyone shead some light on this or the best Cpu my motherboard can work with? It's a 775 socket.

Also I think 4 gb ram is the max I can go but if someone could confirm this I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

The Q9650 has 4 cores the Core 2 duo has 2......They are ranked equally.... http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core2-Quad-Q9650-vs-Intel-Core2-Duo-E8600 ......One is ranked a little better single core ..one is ranked better multi core..... Your choice ...... Personally I like more cores ... You may like a little better single core

Thank you again,

Very interesting can you tell me it means by single core or multi core? Do you mean running two of the same cpu as my motherboard only has one cpu slot? 👍

Got a minute or two before I have to get a haircut,

I have a motherboard that has two slots for two cpu's .... 4 cores each slot (4 threads or channels for information to go through)(.... total 8 cores, 8 threads or channels for information to pass through)
Your motherboard has one slot for one CPU with 4 cores inside it,.......... giving you 4 channels (threads) for information to pass through....one program may be using all channels ...or only two leaving two for some other program......

OK thanks, so if I run a Quad Q9650 3.0GHz Cpu and 4gb of ram on my MS7528 motherboard with a 500gb ssd, what would be the best/optimal graphics card to use? I know I'm limited by the age of mother board and Cpu so what would be a good value card? It has no card atm. Thanks for helping
