Hi Folks,

I am looking to upgrade from my old 4790k and currently have 3500x/3500/i5 9400f on my radar.

The 9th gen i5 is dead cheap here(india) and the entire party of CPU+ Mobo + 8x2 DDR4 HyperX would cost me around 250$. Ryzen CPUs on the other hand have become too pricy!,
The CPU alone would cost me 240-270$ for 3500/3600 and RAM+ Mobo would run me another 100$ atleast.

Is 3600/3500 that big of an upgrade compare to 9400f ??

Oh i just game and code on my machine nothing too demanding and would the i5 be enough to run cyberpunk at 1080p60 ?

My Specs:
Rtx 2060 Super
i7-4790k @ 5Ghz
12 GB DDR3
RM750 Corsair power supply

I am looking at gigabyte aorus wifi elite costs 11k including gst... Board looks and feels like😍... Reviews seem to be ok ... Any thoughts??
The thing about B450 boards is most of them do not support 3000 out of the box. You'll have to tell the retailer to update bios and send it. If you want 3000 out of the box, MSI B450 "MAX" labelled boards are the only choice. If you're going to a retail store he'll probably just update it for you

Even performance wise, the Tomahawk Max is superior. Tomahawk Max II is 11.4k on Amazon right now.

What about i5 10400f? they really give good value try getting a 6c/12t CPU instead of a 6c/6t cpu and you'd probably get 60fps in medium/high detail with that gpu at 1080p60

As Above, I wouldnt upgrade to anything less than a 6c/12t cpu from an i7.

The 3500 is a straight 6 core as if the 9400f, slightly better ipc but thread wise you're actually gaining nothing.

Theyre almost side grades in my opinion just on a newer platform.

The ryzen 2600 is still viable if its available cheap in that respect, otherwise I would sit on your i7 and wait it out (it's still a decent cpu irregardless of its age)

Bro. Check prices for 10400F. It's just 13,750 rn. You can get a good B460 board like MSI Pro VDH for 9150. You'll need ram too. Crucial Ballistix 2666mhz 8gb x2 cl16 for 5300. (i5 can't run over 2666) these are off primeabgb mainly. Vedant and MD are good too

You'll need an aftermarket cooler either way. Arctic Freezer 34 esports duo for 4300 on Amazon.

Thats total 28, 300. ($400) + 4300 for the cooler. it'll be much better than 9400F for future proofing as plus it has 6 extra threads.

2600 isn't cheap. It's $20 more than the 10400F here. Completely useless at that price really.

Yes primeabgb offers good value haven't purchased anything from there yet but have seen the prices are really good

Different markets I suppose, in the UK the 2600 is 2/3 the price of a 3600 which is a decent price.

I'm with you on amazon, in the UK I used them all the time.

I now use them for browsing and then check prices from elsewhere.

Generally 10-20% cheaper on a lot of items even if they're from the same supplier.

Free next day delivery on amazon is good and sometimes worth it but not always

Amazon barely ever has good deals here, except on peripherals . They're best prices on Amazon always. K/M headset monitor UPS everything. Storage too. Whereas everything else is always overpriced. Only sometimes is it better when there's stuff like bank offers otherwise its a loot. 3600 costs $260, 2600 costs $200 on Amazon. Elsewhere it's $225 and $180 ish

My friend from india also said the same thing that they are heavy overpriced on ryzen cpu's.I will always have a soft spot for the 9400f(in my opinion the budget king next to the r5 2600 though)But like it's said before rather get 6c/12 for a little headroom for the next few years.Maybe 2-3 years and by that time there will be cheaper options.

Thank you all for your valuable inputs mates :)!

the 10400f does provide an amazing value !!

But I found a deal with a local dealer who is willing to throw in the 3600, a B450 motherboard and 2xDDR4 8 GB sticks for roughly 30k (400$) and is willing to take my 4790k, RAM and Z97 off my hand for 250$ seems like a sweet deal to me :)

thoughts anyone??

Which B450 motherboard? Which ram sticks? You gotta specify. That deal doesn't seem the right price, but that used sale one... mmmm now that's some sweet $250

Why not go for a B550?? Ik it would increase the price but hear me out, as average consumer I'm gonna assumes that you'll use your pc for 3~4+ years and then might consider changing stuff and most of the time the mobo is always left so get a good mobo now it won't bother you you'll also get longer support from the manufacturers as it's a newer chipset. B550 is the last AM4 socket mobo and it has been out for quite some time so imo a B550 would be better. As @Prad_Bitt said be specific with your parts that way we could help you better.

Don’t think it matters in my opinion. 5000 series is the last to use AM4 so in 3-4 years the only option will be a 3-4 year old cpu. It would be like upgrading to a R5 1600 today, probably not the best option.

True, but thus get the latest chipset of that socket get longer support and never to worry about it however that my opinion and i do get what you are trying to say also B550 has pcie 4.0 so a upgrade in future maybe to a 5000 series and with a next gen GPU the pcie atleast won't be a bottleneck.

If there is spare budget then why not but if budget is tight and no specific reason to go B550 I really wouldn’t worry about picking a B450. As for pcie even a 3090 doesn’t benefit from 4.0. If next gen gpu’s could benefit I’d be very surprised if it’s anything other than very top tier cards.

Can agree if budget is tight i did check the price of B450 and B550(tomahawk variant) now here in India and the difference is lot

Last I checked the Tomahawk was 11k. Cheapest good B550 full ATX was like 14k.

What I would prioritize the most is 2 available m.2 slots. Make sure your mobo has that, it'll be very useful for wireless storage. After that, pcie 4.0.

B550 is a bit pricey and if am not mistaken am not gonna be benefitting from Gen4 unless i spend some money on a gen4 nvme/gpu... :|

Yeah B450 steel legend seems to be the best bang for the buck 8k INR seems to be cheap AF for what it offers!
