That is a decent option too. Regardless of the other stuff, we are looking at an hd7790 on this budget, and that will be better than any APU.

UHM you all forgot, the OP can't keep the Windows! As soon as he tries to use it it will not work, it is OEM to HP. So any solution your providing is shorted by $179 for Windows OS.

The only thing you could do is buy a new PC, like a Walmart $349 i5Core with Windows installed, 8GB Ram DDR3, 500+GB HDD, DVD or Blurray. Then save $99 for a 600W PSU to install in the Walmart PC. Then again save for the GPU of choice ($149-$499) then you will have a nice gaming rig.

If your going to say you can't get any more money, then my answer is FORGET PCs just buy a PS3/Xbox console and done. You can't get a 'gamers rig' for $400 in any way without having a LEGAL Off the Shelf copy of Windows to begin with.

YES you have to buy a whole new PC. You can't 'scavange parts' to cobble things together, because they are incompatible, in fact most of the time PHYSICALLY won't fit into the slots/parts.
