Help deciding between 7820x or a 2920x

Hi all!

I have a 7820x build that I put together before threadripper came out. Now my x299 board is slowly diying, so I figured I should look into AMD. My wife uses it to run multiple virtual machines that run genetic sequencing. The VMs are very memory intensive, so will moving to the 2920x with its memory frequency at 2937mhz be more efficient than staying with the 7820x? I also game on it with the VMs running in the back ground. We have the intention of going up to 128gb of ram soon.

i got a 1900x threadripper build and it performs just as well in gaming . it hasn't disappointed me yet .

Yeah, I think I'm going to go with the x399 build. After all the problems I'm having with this MB, and all the problems that I've read about with x299 boards it just might be a better option. I am however going to stay away from Gigabyte for a while.
