I purchased an Alienware Aurora R4 desktop, and not sure what to do about graphics cards. I intend to purchase a 2560x1440 27" display, and want to play games at max settings without lag.

My choice is to stick with a single GTX 680, or add another 300 bucks to upgrade to GTX 690.
I know that 690 is pretty much 2 680's...but is it worth the 300 bucks at this point?

I also know that I can get 680 SLI setup down the road, but I need the extra PCI slot for my firewire card.
So in reality I just want to know if 1 680 would be good with such a resolution, or would I need an SLI/690 upgrade to accommodate my needs.

Thanks for your help
Mark.

In reality its up to you. Looking at the specs, 1 680 should keep you above 30 fps based on the 3870 cpu. The Titan is the fastest single gpu card on the market, and the 690 is probably the fastest card on the market, next to maybe the ares 2. I have looked at some benchmarks and the 690 is still faster then the Titan. If your budget permits a 690 or Titan, go for it, but if you are not 100 percent sure you want to spend more money, 1 680 should do.
