Help diagnosing freezing

Thanks in advance for assistance. My computer is 2 years old and has been experiencing random freezing for a few months now. I've updated drivers, tried different audio and video cards and nothing I can find even helps me diagnose the issue. Using an asrock 880g with an amd phenom 2 quad core. Video is a sapphire 1gb radeon 6850. It will be extremely random sometimes going hours others freezing every few minutes. Also on windows xp pro.

The first thing I'd do is eliminate memory issues by running memtest at boot. Let it run for at least a full pass, preferably longer; over night. See if it finds any memory errors.

Next, uninstall the graphic driver again and run Driver Sweeper from Safe Mode. Have it remove any remnants of old Nvidia and AMD/ATI graphic drivers it finds in the registry and elsewhere. Re-boot and install the latest driver for your card and O/S.

Finally, I'd eliminate software issues. Run CCleaner and do the Clean and Registry options both. That will remove most registry errors, conflicts, and junk files.
