Hi guys. So I recently RMA'd my R9 290x MSI gaming edition. It seemed to be reaching 94 degrees and throttling so after arguing with them and after a month i finally got my replacement today. Only problem is that I think they gave me an R9 290 instead. So first of all the box is 290x which is fine. On the card I'm sure there was a sticker that said 290. The third thing is that when I first had my 290x before it maxed out at 85 degrees when I was playing games.. this new card hasn't gone over 70 degrees which is similar to the 290 temps. The third thing is that on my old card the power ports seemed awkward because to release the power lead I needed like a screwdriver to release the clip because it was facing the cooling fins on the card. This card has the clips facing away from the card. A few thing that have made me a bit unsure and I was wondering if there is software to prove which card I have cause most software I have used just says R9 200 GPU.

Thanks,
Tom

Ive been looking at things between that cards which makes me think they sent a 290 but i wanted some way to be sure cause they charge £30 to post it back if i send them the card and there isn't anything wrong with it.

Who are you returning it to?

scan.co.uk

More like scam. 😀

Return it asap.

Yeh im pretty sure I did. They contacted me today and said that it was MSI who provided the replacement GPU so they would need to talk to MSI about the problem. I think ill probably use just overclockers from now on. I have used scan and overclockers in the past depending on who was cheapest but after this I cant see me using scan again.

Check your invoice to see if you did and if so then rip into them as that is supposed to be a no quibble guarantee that they will just exchange stuff with no questions asked.

I didnt need to.. They never tried to avoid replacing the card. They said that someone in returns had mixed up 2 of the cards and they nearly sent my replacement 290x to someone else. Luckily i told them in enough time so they never sent my card out to someone else by mistake.
