Help! Erased a volume on external HD while doing a partition

I was "trying" to do a partition on my external hard drive. A very clear message appeared " Partitioning a disk will destroy all information on the volume of the disk. This disk has 1 volume : ..... " but I still stupidly hit the partition button. Is there any way I can recover that volume? I could really use some help! I'm using a Mac.

Besides data recovery software I would say no. There are a lot of free ones out there, most of which are pretty crap though and don't do what you expect of them. There are even fewer out for Mac.

You might have learnt the hard way to think about what you're clicking ;].
