Help! error 0x80070057

When i try to run a program in compatibility mode then it says it got a unexpected error

"error 0x80070057"

I am using a recently build Windows 8.1 pro 64x bit version pc.

Using a SSD (windows) and HDD (Games & stuff)

could you be a bit more precisely? im sorry im a bit of a noob when dealing with such stuff

so i have to remove everything on my SSD totaly erase it then reinstall windows? or just remove the system reserved then restart? reinstall system reserved with windows copy?

Guess it depends on how you installed Windows initially. If you installed to a blank SSD and the System Reserved partition (around 438Mb) appears before 'C' when viewed in Disk Manager, then its probably OK. If not I recommend re-installing as that error code is usually associated with corrupt/missing System Reserved partition...

Looks healthy enough, though my System Reserved is bigger @ 428Mb
Rt click the Partition and check Properties to see if you have free space, too full can cause problems.
Other things to try in case it's a Windows Error
First try System File Checker
Winkey plus 'X'
Choose Command Prompt (Admin)
Type sfc /scannow then Enter

It finds and fixes errors in Windows, but doesn't always report them. Run it and see if the fault disappears after re-booting your system
If corrupt files are found that can’t be fixed, try

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

In fact run it anyway, even if SFC finds nothing.

Re-run SFC

To view CBS Log

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txt

Search C drive for sfcdetails.txt or navigate to C:\Windows\System32 and scroll down.

All looks good. Not sure what to try next. Which particular program were you attempting to install with Compatibility?

not really install, just run a program

first i wanted to run razer surround sound in compatibility mode because it didn't saw my audio source, but then i got the error so i tried it on some other random programs and just theseme error

Hmmm. I normally only use Compatibility when installing older software that won't install successfully running Win 8 or 8.1, perhaps try re-installing Razer using Compatibility to help it run better?

Does that apply to installation programs, like setup.exe? If so there is something seriously amiss with your Windows install!

Some more stuff to try. Create another account and see if the same problem occurs whilst logged into the new account.
Try Clean Boot/startup to see if an application or Microsoft Service is causing the problem.

I ran a clean boot, still thesame error, i also ran in safe mode once but also again that error

SSD Sata mode: AHCI Mode

TRIM = on


Btw i checked out the windows logbook and found something interesting:

The volume system reserved was not optimized, because an error was encountered.
The parameter is incorrect. (0x80070057)

To the best of my knowledge this can only be repaired by re-installing Windows, and I have to confess I was running out of other options and would have recommended a re-install anyway. Best disconnect your HDD and remember to delete all partitions on the SSD so you install to Unallocated Space... Then again, if only Razer Surround is affected you might live with it...

Well, the System Reserved Partition is created during Windows Installation, and I know of no method to update or repair other than re-install. It contains Boot info, the Windows Recovery Environment and Encryption software for the Pro version should you choose to use Bitlocker.
The link you refer to occurred before I realised you have to install to Unallocated space to ensure System Reserved is created on same (Installation) disk, I had two disks in a 17" HP Laptop and the System Reserved partition ended up on the HDD instead of the SSD. Although yours is in the right place, I strongly suspect it is corrupt, generating that error code...
