965 boards all have onboard video 975 does not
there are some 945 boards that will work but i dont recommend them.
if you buy an intel made 965 you will not be able to over clock unless you also buy a E6800
965G boards all have on-board video. Without that "G" an Intel chipset does not have it. Integrated graphics chipset motherboards do not overclock well at all, so don't even bother.

Buy one of these and a videocard to overclock:

You could also buy a 965G motherboard along with a $1000 unlocked cpu and overclock. I don't think that is reasonable though...

Then you haven't looked for a 965 board. None of the ones in the "Shootout" article where Tom's reviewed 7 965 boards had onboard video.

All the popular ones are 965P:
the S3, DS3, DQ6 from Gigabyte, the Biostar TForce965PT, the Asus P5B series, the MSI P965 Platinum, etc. None of these have onboard video. But Gigabyte also offers the DS3 in a G965 flavor.

There are more than just the Gigabyte for G965, but most of them are MicroATX. A couple of full ATX G965 boards also appear to be made by intel.

Intel page for G965 - Note the mention of onboard graphics.
Intel page for P965 - Note the lack of mention of onboard graphics

So I would probably be much better off getting a p965 MB and buying a cheap throw away graphics card to throw in there.

I do plan on buying a good card eventually, just not yet.

Having followed this thread because I have a similar query I would be interested in what suggestions you have for a throw away video card.
Thanks
