TLDR: Old dimension 8300. trying to wipe hard drive using dban. rebooted with cd-drive and got an error (strike F1 to retry bot, F2 for set up utility). did i do something wrong or is my system too old for this stuff?

I have an old dell dimension 8300 that has been laying around my house for ages and I decided to use it to mess around with. I want to wipe the hard drive because I want to install a new OS and basically start from scratch. It still runs fine and boots up without a problem. when I went to wipe the hard drive I tried to use DBAN. When I booted the computer and opened the bios (A03) I set it to boot from the cd drive (IDE CD-ROM Device). It failed, the display has a message (strike F1 to retry bot, F2 for set up utility). I used this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewisIDG-K-E to try this, but I’m not sure what to try next. I don't want to spend any money on this thing so my question is, am I doing something wrong or is the computer too old?

Solution
It sounds like something is wrong with either your cd drive or the cd you burned. You could try redownloading the iso and burning it again or try booting from a usb drive. You can create a bootable usb drive with all sorts of utilities/OSes with YUMI:
