Hi,

This is going to be my first build ever and I am wondering how could I save money. I won't overclock my CPU.

I prefer Intel and Nvidia parts as my rig is be used for rendering/video editing/recording. I will also use it for gaming.

I live in Canada, so prices may or may not be the same as US prices.

Here's the rig:

Solution

Really makes no difference. I have been very happy with MSI and Gigabyte cards. My girlfriend likes her ASUS 7850. They are usually all pretty much the same.

I agree, you might wanna bring up your budget a bit and get a radeon 7950, or a gtx 760, as they will be closer to matching the performance of the i7. also, defiently drop the thermal compound

i concur, attempt to cut corners anywhere and everywhere you can to upgrade the GPU it isn't up to par with the rest of the system. If gaming on higher or ultra settings the cpu is more than enough. An i5 can run just about any game on ultra if you can deal with the CPU speed loss for the rendering standpoint. I would recommend downgraded the CPU 50-100$ cut a few corners here or there and get a much nicer video card.

I've been told that the Intel stock cooler was fine since I am not overclocking and I actually want to keep the i7 for rendering(Sony Vegas, GIMP) so I think it's better that I pay 100 more dollars for a better GPU.
