Help for minecraft black screen on ubuntu 12.04?

i already said it but i have ubuntu linux 12.04 and i have recently downloaded minecraft but it wont open! on one it says something about downloading java but i already have through the command prompt and on another after i launch the game i get a black screen any idea on how to fix this? i do not have a gpu could this be a problem?

if you run the game in a terminal you can see any output or errors it generates. there are different versions of java. you may need to install a different java to work with minecraft.
