help for xmame and frontends

I'm using Fedora Core 3, i just installed advancemenu from the source
code to work with xmame. I keep on getting an error message in the
terminal.
It keeps on complaining that it can't find an xmame config file of some
sort.
I'm using xmame v.96, but I may get v.99 soon. Could anyone help?

Have you typed (once only) MAME -cc at the command prompt to create the
cfg file?

The "old school" technics was to copy a template file (xmame.dist or
something) to ~/.xmame/xmamerc and edit xmamerc (basically tell it where
your roms are).

I just installed xmame v.99 today. I tried to create a config file
using -cc, but it
says that -cc is not a known command for xmame. I believe that -cc only
works with the dos version of mame. I'll look through the man pages for
xmame again to see if there is a command for creating a config file,
i've looked at it before but didn't see anything. Thanks anyway.

A config file is shipped and created when compiling. It's called
"xmame.dist" (I believe). Just copy and rename it to "~/.xmame/xmamerc"
and also let it know where the roms and other stuff are.
