Help getting monitor to display

Hello, I recently just got a computer from a friend as my laptops hard drive just kicked the bucket..... The computer is an Acer desktop running windows Vista. I can't seem to get it to display on either of the two monitors I have (both are working fine, they work with my ancient 15 year old desktop). It also won't display on my tv either, I am using a vga connection. Cables are working fine too. There is no aftermarket graphics card in the acer so there is only the one vga port on the back.... what am I missing? When I turn the computer I can see all the fans running and I don't hear any beeps, I don't see any led lights or anything inside? Not sure if I am supposed to or not? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You should get a 2.5 inch hard drive for the laptop first.

Sounds like a faulty desktop.

No money to buy any parts atm, I do plan on buying a small 120 or 240 SSD for the laptop when I can, it will be my first venture installing anything into a computer myself. I thought there might be a technical solution to the desktop that I wasn't thinking of in the meantime.
