My PC started to power off when playing civ V yesterday. Been searching for the problem, and I have found that my GPU goes to over 100oC when I play Civ V.

My motherboard also heats up to 70oC +. All fans appear to be working fine and drivers are up to date. PC has not crashed like this on any other games (Attila Total War, Rome Total War and League of Legends.

Idle my motherboard is at 60ish and GPU at 50ish, which CPU is at 30ish.

Any ideas?
CPU: i5 3550 3.3GHz
Motherboard: ASUST P8H61-MX
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 (Zotac)
RAM: 8GB

Thanks!

100C is way too hot, surprised you have had no thermal shutdowns. To see what the issue is, I would take out the GPU and clean it off with some compressed air. and if that doesn't work enough, possibly replace the thermal compound on the core.

After you do that, download msi afterburner and adjust your fan speed higher

I took the GPU out and gave it a good clean with compressed air (a lot of dust came out).

It now sits idle at 30oC and stays below 60oC when playing hearthstone, so seems a big improvement. Will test Civ 5.

HOWEVER... motherboard sits idle around 60oC?
