I just got my new PC tonight from Cyber Power PC. I ordered the HD 7950 in it, and got MSI R7950 brand card. My problem is as the title says. My temps skyrocket into the 80s from 46 idle during Furmark's warm up. During a 10 second test it got to 101c. This scares me, do I have a defective card?

As a rule bench marks torture Gpu`s.
The harder it works the hotter it will get.

Still it may be worth your while installing a temperature monitoring program
to see how hot the card gets during playing a game, and see what temps the card is hitting after 15 minuets or so.

You could set the fan speed of the card manually the option should be there in catalyst control center.
And have a look into how many system fans the case will take, or if it has some fitted.
If it does not have extra fans then buy some.

Good air flow inside the case will help your graphics card keep cool, and get rid of heat build up using a push pull fan setup.

I realized the core clock as 840, when the OC edition is 830 and the base is 800, I lowered the clock to 820 in hopes of keeping temps down a bit more. Was 49c and idle, now it's 45. I have the Cooler Master Elite 431 Case. 120mm Seidon liquid cooling with a push pull, and the case has one front mounted fan. I paid for extra case fans.. but the bays where fans could've fit don't have any there.. Maybe not enough room, not sure.
Don't have any high end games to test on as of yet. I'll have FC3 soon though. Downloading.

First the obvious: Do not kill the warranty. Adding/replacing fans is fine, but do n't disassemble the card or tamper with it at all.
If you paid for something and it's missing you should complain, LOUDLY.
Sounds like there is a card issue, it should not be getting so hot so quickly, most cards take several minuets to reach maximum temperature, even under the extreme burn in setting (FYI my XFX 7950 DD hits 88C after 8 minuets or so).
You can try running with the side panel off, it may help with peak temperatures and would indicate a lack of airflow.

+1.
At older days (GT200 days) Furmark was able to fry some GTX275... So don't use it for any reason. Just use Unigine Valley which is a great benchmark in order to achieve maximum temps.

MSI has had issues with other models of not applying their thermal grease correctly. You may have that issue. if you feel comfortable, take off the cooler, remove the thermal compound and re-apply it. 100c is way too hot for a 7950, especially stock speeds. (I'm assuming since you said it's not twin frozr it's running at stock)

Or exchange it...
