Hi guys! I'm new here. I want advice on upgrading my gpu. So here's the one i'm currently using.

http://www.msi-computer.co.jp/VGA/R6950_Twin_Frozr_III_PE_OC/#img/R6950_TF_III_PE_OC_IO.jpg

I bought my gaming rig (assembled it) in Japan, so just google translate the link if it's in Japanese, because i can't find other sites with the same info.

My gpu still performs well but i can't play new high graphic games (2013 onwards) because they stopped making drivers for this gpu since 2013 and most new games require the later driver versions. Other than that it still works fine considering i've had it for 5 years now.

My priority for upgrading is getting a card that will still be usable for the games in the next 5 years (with available drivers unlike my current gpu), at higher resolution (UHD if possible, or a bit lesser), something that won't overheat (i think i won't need OC, i never used OC) and performs well. My budget is $400 and below or slightly higher.

Here's my motherboard btw: https://www.asus.com/ROG-Republic-Of-Gamers/MAXIMUS_IV_EXTREME/

And currently i have 750w psu (i think but it might be 850w, i forgot).

And i'm on 2nd gen i7 processor.

I hope you guys can help me. Thanks!

4k gaming is too costly for most to do right, in less your monitor is really bad you should keep using it and only use 2k-4k dsr when you have an excess of fps which will not happen on newer titles.

We know a lot about 1070 the wild card is going to be a $200 480 (Polaris) which should exceed 970 performance and will be the smartest buy for a while. Just wait a few more weeks ans we will have a lot more info.
There are 2 possible choices for you: the R9 290X (http://m.newegg.com/Product/index?itemnumber=N82E16814150727) and the GTX 980 (http://m.newegg.com/Product/index?itemnumber=N82E16814125790). The AMD is cheaper, the nVidia heats less, so it's up to you to select. But this still isn't what you would take for a UHD setup. If you are ready to mess around with OCing and multi GPU setups, then you could go with 2 R9 380Xs (http://m.newegg.com/Product/index?itemnumber=N82E16814131687).

gtx 1070 fits the bill

@nooneisback

I do want to get UHD but i can't afford 2 gpu. They say gtx 1070 can handle UHD, is this true? If so, i'd wait for a couple of months to check it's pricing here in the Philippines.

@maxalge

Well i don't have any plans on going dual gpu. I'm content with just one.

Btw, i was wondering how will quadhd or uhd be displayed on my fullhd monitor? Can a full hd monitor display quadhd and uhd settings during gaming?

Since it's hard to get a 4k monitor at a cheap price, i won't be able to buy one anytime soon.

@nooneisback

So either i buy a quadhd monitor or just focus on hd with my current hd monitor? What about using a 4k tv instead of 4k monitors? what's the difference?
