Help, graphics card won't work in x16

My gtx 960 is powered on but turns off later after bios. I had recently installed a new motherboard (gigabyte z97x-sli) and it will not work in the x16 slot. My cpu is a i5 4460 and I do believe it should work. The gpu works in the x8 also, I have a 600watt semi modular bronze psu. I also have a satechi led strip that is not working. Is all of this due to not enough wattage? Other things: 1 tb wd blue, 640gb hdd and 3 fans. A hyper 212 evo. Please help, thank you!

It could be a faulty pci slot? Especially since it works in the x8 one. Are the integrated graphics disabled on the i5? Try disabling that in bios.
