hi guys i am building a new pc and just missing a gpu. my cpu is intel i5 6600k.
after looking around i found the gtx1060 to be gr8. but after recent research i found rx480 beat gtx1060s in dx12 and vulcon API. but then i heard gtx1060 can OC btr.
so now i rlly need help deciding between which of these 2 cards run fastest and best in games when OCed and when not OCed( want only performance and speed, dun car abt power/noise thx). i will be playing AAA games and smaller games like DOTA2, and will OC either card so i wanna know which card is faster when fully OCed(dun care abt power/noise just pur performance and speed).

edit: dun care abt price either i can afford either

pls also tell me which model of either card is the fastest(pure speed, dun care abt power/noise).
thx

Solution
New drivers and new patches are making the rx480 faster in new games. Here's a benchmark from today (German) but charts are clear enough. https://www.computerbase.de/2016-12/the-division-dx12-benchmark/
First off, only look at 8GB 480's or 6GB 1060 if you're comparing raw performance.

The 480 gets the win in most cases in DX12*, out of the box. With the 1060 outperforming (generally) in DX11* titles.
480's don't OC very well, something like 8% maximum vs the 1060 which can OC nearer ~20%ish.

With their max OC's the 1060 wins out across the board*, but also costs a little more.

Ultimately, you can't go wrong with either card. Personally, I'd opt for a 1060, but that's just me.

*Results do vary depending on specific titles & support, so although the 480 performs better in DX12 out of the box, and the 1060 in DX11 and overall while overclocked, there will always be exceptions for specific titles, due to a variety of factors.

Solution
A revisit to the 1060 6gb v 480 8gb has found that with driver maturity, the 480 is equal to the 1060 in DX11, and faster in DX12 and Vulcan with very few exceptions.
It is true that you can OC the 1060 further than the 480, but a 20% (to use an above posters number) does not translate to 20% better actual performance.

From what I've read, as DX12 and Vulcan get better adoption the 480 should age better overall.

To me, the worrying issue with the GTX 1060 is future performance versus the RX480. If AMD has already closed the gap, then who knows how they will compare in the future. Historically, AMD cards have matured very well after release.

At launch of both cards, AMD were actually a little ahead. Then nVidia closed the gap, then moved ahead. Now AMD have closed the gap.
It's impossible to predict how driver updates will impact performance moving forward. That being said, neither card has ever been miles ahead of the other, so they should remain pretty close.

I guess I'm not sure where you are seeing the $50 difference unless you are comparing the 6GB 1060 to the 4GB 480. I think it's fairer to compare the 6GB 1060 to the 8GB 480. Similarly the 3GB 1060 should be compared to the 4GB 480. When you do it that way I certainly don't see a $50 difference between the cards. Here are the cheapest prices I see on Amazon for each of the cards. The prices look pretty comparable to me.

the game engine used in the division is simply favoring GCN architecture more DX12 or not.

RX480 equals to 1060 in DX11 due to tittle selection and combined average score. but in reality both RX480 and GTX1060 has improved their performance slightly compared to launch drivers. so the distance between the two probably did not change much even now . TPU relative performance chart still put 1060 ahead RX480 in their much recent test.

if you have troubles picking which card to pick try looking at what game you're playing and see which cards does better. don't think too much for the future. because we can't really predict what will happen.

Looks rather comprehensive, but the average now is 2% difference in DX11:
http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/73945-gtx-1060-vs-rx-480-updated-review-23.html

i was talking exactly about that bench. hardware canucks adds more tittle that is faster on AMD card for their DX11 tittles. if for example hardware canucks add tittles like watch dogs 2 or dishonored 2 the result probably will be different. that's why i brings up TPU relative performance chart. because of their tittle selection in average performance still showing quite a gap between the two. hence if you want more clear picture you should looking at individual tittle.
