Help-HL2 Stuck ar Beginning-Bug?

I muddled my through HL1 with a little help later on in the game but I am
stuck in HL2.
I am in the apartment building where the Combine police are raiding from
floor to floor. I am at the door where the guy in the doorway tells you to
"come in" .. "hurry you have to make your way to the roof."
I have tried different things but nothing works. Some guy is supposed to
lead me to small room where I can find a way to the roof. Never happens ...
everybody runs a crouches until the police arrive.
This is discouraging. I usually make it much further in the game before
getting stuck.

No one will lead you to the roof. First guy tells you to come in and hurry
to
the roof. You have to make your way through that apartment and back out
into the hallway on the other side of the junk pile you saw in the hallway.
Then go down the hall and up some stairs, you'll see some combine coming
up from below. A second guy will tell you to hurry to the roof and maybe a
third guy. Just go through the doors their standing in and you'll eventually
see some stairs leading to the attic. After that you should easily find the
roof.

Thanks all! No problem going through to the stairs then to the roof now.
The walk through help was NO help.

Just run out the room and up the stairs urself...
