GeForce RTX(TM) 3080 16GB GDDR6 (laptop)
32GB DDR4 2933MHz i7-10870H (8-Core, 16MB Cache, up to 5.0GHz Max Turbo Frequency)
Alienware M17 R4, 330W
I had no issues... until I did. It's not overclocked or anything; 99% of the times I just play League of Legends so there's no need. It randomly stutters so badly - going from 144fps (b/c I have it capped) to 30s or outright freezing for a couple of seconds. League of Legends is nearly 15 years old. I have hit 550ish fps (w/o overclocking mind you) in the practice tool of that game w/ settings maxed before. It's not struggling to run League.
It isn't even just league - I have the same problem during internet browsing. It's like sometimes my pc just has a brain fart, and I can't figure out why. I know it started after I updated the GeForce drivers like six months ago, but I updated quite a few things all at once and reverting each of them one at a time hasn't seemed to change anything so I'm completely at a loss. Any advice would be welcomed. I know sometimes task manager claims absurd amounts of memory or cpu are currently in use relative to the task at hand, but the numbers in task manager make no sense (ex: 90% of memory "in use", 32gb of memory, only 1.5gb memory being used).
I'm generally pretty computer savvy as a lifelong gamer but I'm completely at a loss. I've updated every driver, confirmed it's not a heating issue (laptop is on a cooling pad w/ 5 fans, and again this happens when just browsing the internet sometimes)... I really don't get it. I don't visit questionable sites and have had McAfee the entire time I've had the PC. I don't download things from email, and I don't download software on this PC other than games or things from major companies (Microsoft, Apple, etc.). A deep scan detected no virus (which of course doesn't guarantee no virus, I'm just giving as much info as I can).
