I want to remove it because i no longer want to download windows 10 (i did opt in for a while, then cancelled it) and EVERY time i turn on my laptop, i get the error GWXUX has stopped working, and recently there has been another error on top of this one but i don't remember what that said.
does anyone know of another way to remove it without breaking my PC, or a way to stop the error message?

- i have tried removing it in the 'Installed Updates' panel - i right click on it and no options appear
- i have tried deleting the 'C:\Windows\System32\GWX' folder - need permission from 'Trustedinstaller'
- i have made a '.reg' file with this command: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Gwx]
"DisableGwx"=dword:00000001 - Cannot import - not a registry script
- i have tried using 'regedit.exe' directly to add the above command - the file path is not there
- i have used a windows command prompt as an admin with the command: WUSA /Uninstall /KB:3035583 - it says it is required by my pc and cant be uninstalled
- i have clicked customize in the system tray and hidden the notification and icon - i still get the error and it comes back
Please help me, the only other thing i can think of is a brick 🙁
Im on windows 8.1 btw

If that's the case then you are not an administrator. Log into an administrator account first
Sounds like something you did corrupted the update. Try running sfc /scannow to see if the error can be fixed. After that, follow these instructions in this order:

1) Open the task manager and force close GWX
2) Uninstall the update by going to installed updates and clicking on that specific update. Above the list it should have an uninstall button.
3) Go to the windows update menu and change update setting to a "check for updates but let me decide" option
4) Check for updates
5) Go to the screen to select individual updates, uncheck the GWX KB, and then right click and hide.
6) Go to appdata for your profile, then low and roaming, microsoft, and delete anything related to GWX
6) Restart the computer

That should clean it out as long as you didn't cause too much damage before hand

i know my post is long, but that was the first thing i tried (and first i stated)

Did you do it in exactly in that order? Your post never stated the exact steps, only partial steps. Just restart the machine and follow the steps in the order I gave, all at once.

what i meant in the OP, is when i am in the installed updates panel, i click on kb3035583 and there is NO option to remove or uninstall it, i cant right click AT ALL and above the list of installed updates, there is no button that says uninstall (or any for that matter)
