Help, I have no idea what's happened to my screen

I have refreshed the computer and reset it to factory settings and the problem still persists. I plugged in a crappy second screen which mirrored the image perfectly leading me to believe there is something wrong with the laptop itself. I have tried my best to download drivers with this small screen area but it hasn't seem to change anything. I had a problem with my motherboard 6 months ago which lead to it being replaced, although the symptoms were totally different. I think it might be the motherboard but I'm not sure. http://m.imgur.com/an4IxFI I am also unable to change my screen resolution as shown in that picture. Any help would be largely appreciated as I was just about to sell this laptop to upgrade to a more powerful desktop. Thanks

Right click on desktop
Personalize, Display then change the resolution to 1920x1080 or whatever native resolution you have

If that doesn't work then a fresh re-install of windows should fix this issue

The option for the screen resolution is grey and I cant click on it. Do you know how I can fix that?
