Hoping someone can shed some light on this, I was given this about 15 yrs
ago and its sat out of sight ever since. I found it the other day and
thought I would try and figure out what it does. I have posted some pictures
here :

http://fibrefix.tripod.com/arcade/index.album?i=7

http://fibrefix.tripod.com/arcade/index.album?i=5

http://fibrefix.tripod.com/arcade/index.album?i=6&s=

It is made as a prototype hand wired and is marked SPERRY UNIVAC Serial no
1001. P/N 2873118-00
Documentation may be obtained from special products engineering group,
General systems Division, Salt lake City. 1984.

It has a z80a cpu , z80 pio, z80 SIO/2 , a 2716 eprom (I have the Bin file
if it helps) also various rams and ttl logic ic's. On the far right it has a
colomn of buttons marked Test, YR, M/YR, D/W, D/M, HR, MIN and SYNC.

Any ideas??? Don't tell me its a bomb!!

Did a quick Google for Sperry Univac.

Seems Sperry Univac was trying to create the first electronic computer (as
opposed to the ENIAC which ran off glass tubes).

So what you have there is either some type of primative computer or perhaps
some type of diagnostic tool for one.

You would still need to know the address mapping of the system to make
any use of the BIN file.

Isn't 1984 a little late for the first electronic computer? I think
you're right though as far as it being a diagnostic tool, some of the
initials seem like they could be time based, hr min yr? Maybe an early
electronic desk calendar /palm type pc set up to sync with a PC?, or a
souped up alarm clock? :)

I read the eprom and have the .bin file if you know of anyone that can run
it on a z80 emulator maybe that would help?

Z80 starts at 0x0000 on reset, so you know where the (first) rom goes.

I was thinking maybe a staff time clock of some sort, it runs and has what
looks like 2 rs232 ports on the side
