Hi all,
I have a WD MyBook Essential 3TB HDD which i can no longer access.
I have removed the HDD (WD Green) from the enclosure and connected it directly on a PC and found that it appears as unformatted in disk management (2.2TB and 746 GB unformatted partitions).
I haven't tried to do anything else with the HDD till now.
Can anyone please help me to recover data from the HDD?

Thanks for your time and help in advance

Rizwan

Well, then I believe there's something wrong with the enclosure. I assume you've tried a different cable.

In that case, you will either need to look for some professional help in order to retrieve the data or you can try to repartition and reformat it. If you go with the second option, you will loose your data but you may be able to use the drive as an internal one. (or you can get a third party enclosure)

Hi there Rizwan Gukhool,

Sorry that you are facing some issues with your WD drive. 🙁

What were the issue you were initially facing? Did you get some sort of an error message?

Unfortunately, this is an external drive that features hardware encryption. This means that you will not be able to access the data, if the HDD is out of the enclosure.

My suggestion would be to try to put the drive back in the enclosure and see whether it is powering up and if it is recognized by Disk Management.
In case it is, you can try to access it with some data recovery tool. Also, you can try something simple as just attaching it with a different USB cable to another computer.

If this does not work or if the data is extremely important, you may need to look for some professional help. You can check WD's Data Recovery Partners out: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=6qbmSe

Let me know in case you have some more questions,

When connected through the enclosure, i cant see the HDD in disk management.
The only thing i did was remove it from enclosure and connected it as secondary on sata on a PC. in Disk Management, I can see it as 2 unformatted partitions 2.2TB and 746 GB.
