If you do not know what it is, do not disable it) to see if you can stop the computer from trying to start that thing. Full removal is a little beyond the scope of this thread.

Ok, being a computer idiot i need to ask some stupid questions.
After I've downloaded memtest86 what do i do with it?
how do i know that I've burnt the image onto the CD and not just copy the file?
Tried running msconfig and system configuration utility pops up, what then?

What burning software are you using? if its Nero , you just click "Recorder" then "Burn Image..." then you select the ISO file(you decompress the .zip file with windows or any other software to unzip a file, this will leave you with the .iso image file to burn). If you burn the image successfully you should be able to boot off of it. Provided you system is able/set to boot of a cd.

for msconfig. When you get into that window, there is a tab called Startup. On this tab, you should see all things that start with your computer. If you remove a check-mark from a program, it will not longer start with windows. Just make sure you do not disable anything you need. As a general rule, leave the Microsoft Corporation stuff alone.

you should be looking for any reference to cpmrotate.dll to disable, followed by other apps that annoy you on startup. If you do not know what it is, Google it first, there is lots of info on many processes

hello nukemaster,i hope you are still reading this topic.
randomly, when i was opening mozilla, the BLue Screen of Death was popping. It referred to a certain software or hardware error. I formatted the hard disk, reinstalling windows xp sp2. After the installation, no more blue screen of death. Instead,my computer restarted oftenly, even before loading windows.
Before all thins started i changed the computer position, right next the desk, preventing the side fan to do its job(for about 2 days). My bad...
I would like to mention that SpeedFan is showing me 3 temps:
Temp 1: 33 c
Temp 2: 33 c
Temp 3: 59 c
The third temperature i don't know from what component is collected.
I would like to know what got broken, or how i can resolve this. (sorry about the english mispelllings). Thank you for your time.

Can you please post full specs on the system

CPU
Board
Video card
Hard Drive ect

None of those temps are overly high.
Make sure any heat sinks and fans are in fact turning and that they are all clean(dust can cause lots of heat if enough gets into a heatsink).

If the computer restarts with a Blue Screen, then you should make it so that the blue screen stays until you restart the computer.

On XP
Right click "My Computer" then "Properties".
Select the last tab called "Advanced"
Under "Startup and Recovery" click "Settings"
In the next window, Remove the check mark from "Automatically restart"

For Vista(should be the same in 7)
Right click "Computer" then "Properties"
Select "Advanced system settings" from the left side list.
Under "Startup and Recovery" click "Settings"
In the next window, Remove the check mark from "Automatically restart"

Next time you have a Blue Screen error, it will stay so you can read it and even copy the Error numbers to post here.

Sorry. I already unchecked "automatically restart' and it's still restarting unexpectedly. For example, today, it didn't even load windows. It was just restarting over and over and over.

Speedfan does not generally read power supply temperatures. It is also known to sometimes read locations with no sensors as some random extreme temperatures.

What signs are you having of overheating? is the system crashing?

I am going to guess you are talking about the 955 not 995(typo). If Temp3 is the motherboard sensor for the cpu it would be extremely overheating(and the stock heatsink would be very loud like 5000+ rpms it even gets there without overheating many times).

That said, speedfan normally will see the cpu core it self. Your temp "Core" may be either the cpu or video card core depending on your config.

If you hit the little configure button on speedfan you will see a tab called temperatures, under that, you will see what each temp is coming from. So core will say either AMD 10(similar, i have no used speed fan on a K10 system) or Nvidia something or other.

Once you have determined what "Core" is, then we can look at that 78-80 temp to see if it is in fact a temperature to worry about. I have a board with 90 degree readings that are not in fact even real.

I would suggest getting a can of compressed air to clean out your heatsink.

Yes the system has been just dying when playing games like dragon age origins. it will work fine for a while then the tower just turns off and will not turn on again until i switch off the psu and then leave it for about 5 mins then turn it on again.



there is a temp for the gpu and it is usually at 25-25 deg the core temp is coming for the amd k10 sensor and the 80 deg one comes for a sensor called it8720f this is the same for temps 1 and 2 the specs i have managed to find for my psu are as follows

i am considering just upgrading the power supply for head room anyway to a 750w psu from antec if i can get my hands on one but i still want to work our where this temp 3 is coming from. also i can only see 1 fan and i have another one connected but cant see its speeds my fan one which i think is the cps fan is usually at 2200 rpm in normal conditions it climbs to near 5000 when gaming thou.

ill look into trying to get a can of compressed air i do not know if they are sold here in Australia

The "t8720" is a hardware chip on the board. It is responsible for hardware monitoring and on some boards fan speed control.

That being said, many of these chips have more inputs then the board makers use. I would be willing to bet that the 78-80 is one of those such incidents.

I have a board with a sensor that tells me 109 - 127 degrees.

Your power supply while not the best, should be able to run your system fine. Please note i say not the best because it seems to have at best as much power as many 450watt units and 72% efficiency is also rather low by today's standards.

It may well be that the power supply you have is just not good at all. I see no temperatures that fall outside of the specs for your hardware.

I would generally ignore this 78-80c temp as it is unlikely to be connected to an actual thermal probe.

Looking at your fan speeds, the system should actually be quiet already.

Most fans are quiet at those speeds. That said, you can see if you have any case fans not connected to the motherboard. Those may be louder. If they can be connected to the board, chances are it will slow them as well.

Hi there, after installing I saw that only my CPU fan was showing to have any RPM's, the rest were 0.

I followed your steps and after a reboot, everything was still 0, but the CPU RPM had increased to ~1400 from ~550. A minute later however, it dropped to 0 as well and it's stayed that way.

I do have an Asus board, and I turned off the Qfan in bios.

Also when you say "check off automatic speed fan" do you mean make it checked, or unchecked?

Also any setting changes that I make, do I need to restart for them to take effect?

What fans you have. Only fans connected to the motherboard will show speeds in speedfan. If connected to the power supply, speedfan will not see them at all.

I've been trying to figured out what some temps in speedfan are and I keep changing them because in my research I always find them to be wrong and I don't even know anymore. I even went to AMD's forums and those guys seem to be dead (unwilling to help)

The IT8712f-J are most likely the sensors the board uses to monitor in the bios.

What board are you running? And are you trying to control fan speeds as well.

If you just want to read temperatures, HWmon is generally what I use now.

The best way to sort out extra temperatures is to see how they react to load. That is how one used to find the cpu temperature.

With new cpus having there own built in sensor, it is not much of an issue any more.

Because speedfan and HWmon just look at the sensors(and boards with the same sensors do not use the same spot for cpu/chipset/system) they do not label it, and they can not detect sensors that are now connected or calibrated.

.... so the two temp1's means different temps of the same thing. The fact that my dual core CPU only has one reading instead of two ( two cores ) is due to only having one sensor to read the CPU?

Do not mind the labels I put on them since they must be wrong anyway. Only one I think I'm certain is one of the temp1's because in speecy my MOBO temp never goes above nor below 40c so I label it MOBO. It must be the MOBO!!!

A sensor that NEVER changes is probably not connected to anything(you can just make it go away).

If you run something that uses the video card the NB temp should get hotter since the video in onboard.

Same for the cpu, but with the cpu Core reading you do not need anything else.
All my AMD systems tend to have the same temperature on all cores so that may be why you only get 1 temperature.

The 2 temp 1's are from different sensors and not related in any way, but if one is the 40c on all the time, chances are it is not connected to anything and just gives that reading all the time for no reason.
