Hi,
I'm doing my first pc build and have run into a HUGE problem: windows 7 is very expensive, and Linux seems to not be for gaming. Do you guys know whether Linux is good for gaming? I mostly want high fps. Also, what version is best? and if Linux isn't for gaming, where can I get windows 7 cheap, without it being a free trial or weird deal?
Thanks!

While you can run windows programs in WINE (an emulator that runs windows programs within linux), current games do not do well in WINE or the other emulators for linux. There are a number of linux based games that are similar to windows games, but you will not find the variety or the newer games out there for linux.

There are numerous "work arounds" you can try, but as you are apparently new to linux, I would not suggest you try these as they are somewhat complicated to work with and not beginner friendly.

If you are building a pc, spend the $90 for windows so you can enjoy gaming.
