So I cant get my MB to recognize and drive installed in m2-slot 1. I know its something with that slot only because I've tried both the m2 ssd and they work in m2-slot 2. Basically I am trying to get it to recognize my last SSD for last storage spot, not concerned with overall performance as my OS is on a separate SSD. My build is below. I don't have anything in Sata Port 1 and the bios is updated and everything else works 100%, just not that slot. Thank you in advance.

I need help please!!

My set up

Processor AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Processor, 3600 Mhz, 8 Core(s), 16 Logical Processor(s)
Motherboard X470 GAMING PRO (MS-7B79)
Drives #1 Western Digital 250GB WD Blue 3D NAND Internal PC SSD - SATA III 6 Gb/s, M.2 2280, Up to 550 MB/s - WDS250G2B0B - Installed in m2 - slot 2 ( operating system works fine )
#2 Western Digital 500GB WD Blue 3D NAND Internal PC SSD - SATA III 6 Gb/s, M.2 2280, Up to 550 MB/s - WDS500 installed in m2-slot 1 isnt recognized by bios or OS. If I put my OS in this slot same thing not recognized.
If i reverse the situation m2-slot 2 reads both m2 SSD fine.

I dont think any other information is need but here it is:
32GB Vegance RGB DDR4 3600
Cruical 1TB SSD 2.5" sata port 2
SanDisk 1TB SSD 2.5" sata port 3
2 Raedon GPU One is install in the 1st PCIE Slot ( x16 ) and tyhe other is instqalled in the second highst PCIE slot ( x8)
There is nothing in bios or manual that say were the GPU are installed would create an issue for the m2-slot 1

IF you need more build info I can tell you it,

Solution
  • M2_1 slot (from AMD® processor) supports PCIe 3.0 x4 (1st, 2nd and 3rd Gen AMD® Ryzen™/ Ryzen™ with Radeon™ Vega Graphics and 2nd Gen AMD® Ryzen™ with Radeon™ Graphics) or PCIe 3.0 x2 (Athlon™ with Radeon™ Vega Graphics) and 2242/ 2260/ 2280/ 22110 storage devices
  • M2_2 slot (from AMD® X470 Chipset) supports PCIe 2.0 x4 and SATA 6Gb/s 2242/ 2260 /2280 storage devices
M2_1 slot support NVMe PCIe 3.0 x4.
M2_2 slot support PCIe 2.0 x4 and SATA M.2

Can't put a M.2 SATA in M2_1.

Both of your WD Blue M.2 drives are SATA M.2 drives.
On that motherboard, only slot 2 supports SATA. Slot 1 is an NVMe only slot.

You'll need to get an NVMe M.2 drive to work in slot 1.

Where did you find that boss I’ve read everything from Manufacture I thought. Thank you explains everything. I just figured that since it was a B+M key it would work because it fits and because the other m2 worked with Sata

Although the motherboard manual doesn't come out and say it, read the description boxes of both the M.2 slots.
You'll notice that slot 2 lists SATA III as being supported but slot one does not.
Thank you sir. I appreciate your knowledge. I would think the manufacture would tell you that instead of me inspecting the board and what it says, lol, idk though I’m new at this and I thought I was pretty good, obviously not! Thank you again Sir.

That information isn't in the manual only. It's on any motherboard website in the "Specification" details in the "Storage" section.

The manual is used to know if the M.2 slots disable SATA ports because it's not always specified in the "Specification".

Manual not needed to know what the M.2 slots supports.
