My daughter has a 3TB Lacie external drive she uses mostly for photos on her Macbook Pro. When the Lacie drive is plugged in to any computer (MAC or PC), all we see is the Lacie Share - not the area on the disk with her photos. I have read that it's likely due to the drive being plugged in when a MAC OS update was performed - which is likely true in our case. What I haven't been able to find is a solution on how to be able to undo whatever it is that is causing the portion of the drive with her photos on it to not be visible.

I am not a MAC guru by any means (never used one - I'm a PC gal), so if you have a solution, then explicit instructions are most appreciated. Also, if you need more information, you may need to be explicit on telling me how to get that information.

Sincerest thanks for any help you can offer!!

To be accessable on both a PC and a Mac the drive would need to be formatted with FAT32, but FAT32 won't support 3TB (2TB limit).
Without knowing the drive (model) and history, I'd say you probably need an additional driver/software (often distributed via the Lacie Share) before the drive can be accessed; could also be Her 'Area' on the drive has been protected/hidden, if that is the case there is no way anyone here can help.
That's an interesting perspective, but if that were true, would that apply to when I plug the drive into my DESKTOP (PC), where I only see Lacie Share as well? Would an OS upgrade really change the permissions on an external drive? Are the permissions stored in the FAT table (or MAC equivalent)? How do I see these permissions and how do I change them?
