HELP! Latest Vista Update killed my PC!!

So I'm working away and the updater asks me to install the latest updates. I install them then it asks me to restart. My computer restarts and the monitor remains in standby mode. The computer is working but nothing showing up on screen. What the hell did this update do?? I only just got it today and it looked like it had alot of stuff to it.

dont turn it off just yet.
If it still seems to be working try to let it go for a while as it may be finishing the update and turning it off may cause a problem.
Give it a couple of hours and then try it

too late I'm afraid 🙁 even if it was doing something there shouldnt be any cause for the monitor to just go to standby like that. I left it for around 5 mins before I forced restarted.

can anyone specify what todays vista update was? what it installed exactly?

ok it's not the graphics card as I swapped it with another and it does the same thing. So I guess it's the mobo.

can you get into safe mode to check the video settings?
Speciffically check the refresh rate setting.
