Help! Low profile ram?

Ok i made the big mistake of buying the dell 4600c. Thin case. And I want to upgrade. I found a third party grpahics card on newegg that should work just fine it says the bus is AGP 4x/8x and the system says 1 half-slot AGP. If anyone can think why I shouldnt order the card please tell me.

I have found normal ram and low profile ram and they look exactly the same on newegg anyone here know the difference and if regular sticks won't fit in this case? The dell site does not describe the ram slots as "low profile" but any information is greatly appreciated.

Check to see if the agp slot is around the same length as the pci. If it is then the card should work. Im not sure about he low profile though. Could you try emailing Dell?

The profile of a memory module is simply its height. Standard profile for DDR is typically 1.1 to 1.35 inch.
Some systems place a requirement on the height. And some older modules come on boards that support 16 chips per side (high profile). The profile has little to do with the memory compatibility.

low profile case doesnt mean you need low profile memory. You should be okay with standard RAM.

Also, sometimes if the memory has to fit in a tight space, you'll need a special PCB design. For laptop the PCP design must be of the small outline form factor.

For PC system usually there are no profile requirements on the memory, unless you have to fit the motherboard in a tight space where a few extra milimeters is of a concern.

You don't need low profile RAM, but as for your video card, your case only supports half-height cards. You can actually tell by the PICTURES at Newegg which cards are half-height.

Most half-height cards don't include the half-height brackets. While some do, I wouldn't let the inclusion of the half-height bracket be a deciding factor for me, I'd work something out if the card I wanted didn't include the shorter bracket. In fact, I've shortened brackets before, and if your carefull, you can even use a card without the bracket.
