HELP Macbook AIr smells and looks Burned fro USB port

Yesterday a little bit of water spilled on my macbook Air, at first I didnt think anything of it because it had a case, however hours later I heard a sizzling sound coming from the USB port on one side and then saw smoke. I immediately put it in front of the A/C. Now it smells really bad and looks burned..is my whole laptop messed up or is it just the USB port?

Does the laptop still work ? That's the real question here. Also why would you not think to look it over after water got on it ?
