I did a build 6+ years ago with a friends help. He was an "expert" and needless to say i wasn't exactly satisfied with the finished product. This time around i decided to do some research myself and see if i could pull it off alone. So far i think im doing ok (any and all contributions are greatly appreciated). I got tired of chasing consoles around and after my last "red ring of death" i decided to crossover to pc gaming for the graphics potential and the unbiased platform it offers(hoping for bf4,AC4 and the like on max settings, and running multiple monitors). I'm doing this custom build mainly for gaming, video editing/game recording. Budget isn't a HUGE issue, with the thought that it'll last for quite some time. I want this to be a one and done (for a while) kind of thing with future proofing to a degree. Ideally i'd be able to upgrade one part at a time if i choose without a complete system overhaul. I know nothing is truly future proof but from what I've read new intel cpus will come out for the lga1150 socket which hypothetically would give me future compatability if i decided to switch out cpu/mobo in the future. All the parts are set besides the board really, as i said id like to have a higher end board ideally for ease of overclocking (being that im new to it) and hopefully the finishes of a nicer board. That and the cyber peen going through the roof. With all that being said here's my partslist and if you have any input id love to hear it. Thanks in advance everyone.

And by 400$ I mean 700$+. That build is OVERKILL. I have the Asus Maximus Formula, i5 4670k, GTX 770 and corsair 760i.

First off, the GTX770 runs every game I have(StarcraftII, DiabloIII, Planetside2, etc.) on ultra and the FPS don't drop under 60. So unless you are doing some industrial level video encoding/processing you wont need two GTX780s. Its overkill and it will eat at your electric bill. On the same topic, 1000W is more than you need for twin GTX780s so if you drop it to one then you will only need 750W, 850W for potential growth.

Second, The only real benefit I could see coming from upgrading to the i7 would be the use of Intel Hyperthreading and some extra MB of L3 Cache. i7s always tend to be just a little better then i5s...

Second, The only real benefit I could see coming from upgrading to the i7 would be the use of Intel Hyperthreading and some extra MB of L3 Cache. i7s always tend to be just a little better then i5s but are also a lot more money. You would be paying about 100$ more for one tenth of a Ghz a MB or two of L3 Cache and Hyperthreading. I do not think there is any question that there is better value in the i5s. Again, for some heavy hitting enterprise applications the extra virtual cores from hyperthreading might help but other than that you wont see a difference. I own the 4670k and I am able to get up to a stable 4.2Ghz. This processor flies and I do not think you will be disappointed.

Lastly, I dont see what the Extreme has that the Formula doesn't aside from extra PCI-e 3.0 slots. The Formula has all the neat little features and more
(crosschill for VRM cooling and ROG armor) than the Extreme. So unless you really plan on using 4 way SLI, I dont think you need to go for the Extreme.

As stated, I have all the components that I suggest, I am more than satisfied with my build and would highly recommend to anyone. Unless you plan on powering a small business with your PC, that build is too much.

Edit: I could go on and on, so if you have any other questions feel free.
