(ms-7668) MSI P55A-G55 Motherboard

I am a bit ignorant with SATA compatabilities but I'm looking for whatever is the fastest that will work.

It says it has Sata-300 and 600 yet I also read the new SATA III are backwards compatible yet not top speeds so all im wondering basically is if SATA III will work and how much difference performance wise will it make not choose the exact right drive (im assuming not much)

Solution
Heres some options:
Nvme ssd- insanely fast but expensive solid state drive that requires an nvme m.2 slot.
Sata ssd- very fast ssd using sata interface
Sata hdd- slow but cheap mechanical storage
No matter the sata interface, the ssd is much faster than the hdd.

What is your budget?
What size are you looking for?
SSD or spinning HDD?
What do you use this system for?
