What does that mean, shoud i ask him to put the lid back on, or is that not an option?
People will remove the cover that is over the CPU, the "lid" to change the thermal compound located inside between the physical cores and the lid, for cooling purposes. It's a trick to get more performance. It would indicate that the CPU has been run very hard on overclock.

Does that mean the xou is overworked, am i looking at a short lifespan or will it be ok for the time to come?

I eont be running any heavy programs im looking at trying some coding, adservices and play a little classic wow off and on.
