[SOLVED] Help me choose best ssd

Hello. Could you help me choose which one of these ssd's are best for my pc. I have asus p8b75-m lx motherboard.

SSD M.2 2280 Gigabyte NVMe 256GB PCIe 3.0 x4 1700/1100 MB/s
SSD Kingston mSATA 240GB SUV500MS/240G
or
SSD M.2 Kingston UV500 240GB SATA3 256bit

Hi @Dac228.

Your mobo does not support an m.2 SSD. You'll need to go with a SATA III SSD like this one. (Just an example) Here's your mobo's specs. Whats your budget? Is this SSD for storage or the OS? If for storage then you might want to think about an old skool HDD like this one. (Just an example)

You can of course go SSD for both, just trying to keep the costs down until you tell us your budget.

None of those. Your motherboard doesn't support M.2 and doesn't support msata.
Get regular 2.5" sata SSD.

You can't go wrong with Samsung. I have an ancient Samsung 820 series @ 120GB and use it as my primary OS boot drive. It's going on 6 years since I bought it and it's still quick @ 10sec power on to desktop.

Is this for a new build, or are you upgrading your windows C drive?

You have just one 6gb sata port; that is where the ssd should be.

Crucial MX500 is close to the 860 EVO when read/write speeds compared, but normally noticeably less expensive than an 860 EVO...

The motherboard doesn't have M.2 slot nor msata slot.
Without additional adapters you can not connect those.

Adapters just add cost.
2.5" form factor is the best way to add SSD to this board.

M.2 sata drive plus M.2 to sata adapter will cost more than same model 2.5" sata drive.
Same thing with msata drive plus msata to sata adapter.

Who said - I don't like it?
M. 2 is pretty great. Small/ compact, no extra wires dangling around.

But none of that applies, if you have to use adapters.

I agree. It's pointless to use an M.2 drive if you have to buy adapters, you might as well just use a standard 2.5" SATA SSD because you are not really eliminating any clutter, gaining any speed or obtaining any other tangible benefit other than making your wallet lighter because the 2.5" model will be less expensive than the M.2 model in almost all cases AND won't require the additional expense of an adapter. It's creating a solution for a problem that doesn't exist.

There is no mention of a m.2 port either sata nor pcie.

Past that, while some motherboards may allow pcie devices to be installed in a pcie slot.
Older motherboards may not have the ability to boot from it.
I do not know if this is the case here, or not.

I think the OP picked a particularly good ssd in the samsung 860 evo.
Be certain to attach it to one of the two 6gb sata ports for best sequential performance
I might have gone with 500gb, budget permitting.
If the used portion of the windows C drive is sufficiently less than the size of the ssd, then the samsung ssd migration app will make the transition easy.
