Hi everyone.
Im a Videographer and video editor Doing mostly short videos for social media.
Im looking to buy a new system OR upgrade my current one.
My current PC was assembled about 3 years ago for light gaming and not video editing in mind,
but that's how things went and it became my main machine, but it not doing very well.
Im using davinchi resolve Studio, some fusion effect. Files are at maximum 4k h.265 4:4:2, but uselly 1080,h.264.
So...ill right down my current build and then explain my thoughts.

CPU: ryzen 3400g
Motherboard: Asus prime b450m-a
GPU: rx 570 4gb mini
8x2 gb 3200 ram
1tb m.2 ssd
corsair 450w psu
Generic case

The first path: Upgrading the current build.
because this build already exist i can get a powerful gpu, 3070\ti. which means ill need to upgrade my psu also to 750W.
from my current research i understand that the most powerful cpu i can put on this board is ryzen 5600x.
also add another 2x8 ram sticks for 32 gb ram. problem with this build is it will be at its maximum upgrades.

The second path: New Intel Build
the new 12th gen intel looks great and future proof.
i can get for the same price a better mobo with usb-c (which is important to me), better case.
cpu with 10-12 cores as opposed to 6.
faster ram.
but the problem is ill have to keep my rx570 and in the future get a better gpu.

what would you say is the better option?
i want to pc to last for 4-5 years.
very important to me that the pc will not be Overkill for my use.

sorry for long post and thank you

The Ryzen 5800X and 5900X have both received recent and noteworthy price drops, and, if attainable at /near those new prices, either would be a large boost to any workloads limited by your CPU. (doubling or tripling of core/thread count, plus large the large corresponding 19% IPC increase associated with the 5000-series Ryzen CPUs..)

You'd want your mainboard's BIOS brought up to date before trying either CPU...

A 5900X should make almost anyone satisfied for most PC needs for 4-5 years, IMO....

What is your budget?

Here are two articles by Puget systems on Davinci resolve recommended hardware :
https://www.pugetsystems.com/recomm...-DaVinci-Resolve-187/Hardware-Recommendations

Looking at them, it would seem that a 12th gen intel upgrade would be stronger than a 5800X upgrade.

Your R5-3400G has 8 processing threads and a passmark rating of 9331.
That is when all 8 threads are fully busy.
The single thread rating is 2360.
That score is likely to be more important than the total number of cores/threads.
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+Ryzen+5+3400G&id=3498
By comparison the 5600x is(12) 22156/3382
I5-12600K is (16) 27025/3972.
If budget is a big issue, look at the I5-12400 (12) 20060/3572.

It would seem that graphics is very important and a replacement for your RX570 should be planned for.

I would not plan on simply adding ram to a ryzen system.

Ram is sold in kits for a reason.
A motherboard must manage all the ram using the same specs of voltage, cas and speed.
The internal workings are designed for the capacity of the kit.
Ram from the same vendor and part number can be made up of differing manufacturing components over time.
Some motherboards, particularly ryzen can be very sensitive to this.
This is more difficult when more sticks are involved.
Ram must be matched for proper operation.
