Current specs:

Phenom II 965 oc'ed 4ghz (old but still playing any game out there easily)
gtx 780 classified
240gb SSD
600W psu
8gb ddr3 1600mhz 9-9-9-24

So yeah I'm slowly upgrading my computer and even though that phenom is like 7 years old it still plays any game out there 60fps in the witcher 3 graphics pretty much maxed out. People said It would bottleneck my gpu, but it does not apparently! I will probably upgrade it in the future though.

But for now, I started playing Ark Survival Evolved and even though i have 50-70 fps I get stuttering as I move and the game has to load content. I only have 8gb ram at the moment and from what I read online this game plays much better with 16gb of ram.

I currently have 2x 4gb of ddr3 1600 mhz with 9-9-9-24 timings, i will give those to my girlfriend for her computer and I will upgrade mine to 2x8gb. I am debating between 2 sticks

G skill trident x 1600mhz 7-8-8-24

G skill sniper 1600mhz 9-9-9-24

Will I see a real difference from the trident X with better timings or would it be wiser to go with the traditional 9-9-9-24.

Or should I just go with higher memory clock, 1866 or 2133, my motherboard supports 2133 but I heard phenoms start screaming over 1600mhz memory, i think 1600mhz is pretty much the max I can use with that cpu. Higher memory clocks also have higher timings.

So if anyone could give me advice I would appreciate =)

Solution
I'd go the 1600/9, the 965 was the first AMD CPU that could reliably run 1600, try to run high performance sticks at CL7 may not go over well, as is with 16GB may need a litttle extra DRAM and MC voltage

As I said in my first post, Ark uses more than 8gb of ram and I stutter because my ram is running at 100%.

Thank you! But if I were to upgrade to an FX cpu in the next few weeks would I see a difference going CAS7? I mean i can always change the timings so they can be used on the phenom until i change.

I guess I will go with the sniper then, thank you very much. And the model I would buy is the fx 8370!
